Educator, scholar, friend
| Shauna Schullo, Director of the
Distance Education Certificate Program and Workshop Chair for the 2009
Annual Conference on Distance Teaching and Learning died on Thursday evening, May 7 due to
complications from metastasizing breast cancer. Shauna was 43 years old
and leaves behind her husband, Scott, her parents, two brothers, and many
family members, professional colleagues, and old and new friends.
Shauna came to UW-Madison in October 2007 from The Center for Distance Education and Independent Learning at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Prior to Alaska she spent many years as an adjunct instructor, staff member, and graduate and undergraduate student at the University of South Florida, Tampa in their College of Education, along with the Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence, Academic Computing, and Chemical Engineering departments.
Shauna loved to teach, loved to learn, and loved spending time with her many friends. We treasure the time we had with her and are the better for having experienced her can-do attitude and open, genial ways.
A Web site to honor Shauna with a, "Virtual Apple" Award has been set up by her University of South Florida community at: http://virtualapple.ning.com
A memorial fund to support a "Shauna Schullo Best Teaching Practices" presentation at the Annual Conference on Distance Teaching & Learning has been set up through the University of Wisconsin Foundation. If you wish to participate please make checks to: "UW Foundation" with Shauna's name in the 'Memo' area; checks may be directed to our office and we will forward them to the Foundation.
On behalf of the Distance Education Professional Development staff, thank you for your words of support, kindness during Shauna's illness, and many thoughtful condolence messages.
