
Margaret Hansen will share experiences and results of using podcasting with nursing students at the University of San Francisco. We’ll discuss the learning outcomes, student reactions, the value of podcasting in education and more. Peter Young will join as co-moderator, bringing his expertise and experience in teaching podcasting courses at Notre Dame de Namur University. Both Margaret and Peter are alums of the Certificate Program.
Margaret Hansen,
Assosciate Professor, teaches
in the School of Nursing at the University of San Francisco. She received
her undergraduate nursing degree from Seton Hall University in South
Orange, New Jersey, in 1978. In 1997 she completed her Masters in Nursing
Science from San Jose State University with an emphasis in nursing
education. She holds a post-masters certificate in Nursing Informatics
from Duquesne University. Her doctoral degree is from the School of
Education at the University of San Francisco and her dissertation research
project involved the investigation of the effectiveness of an interactive
multimedia learning tool on nursing students’ learning outcomes and
self-efficacy.
Dr. Hansen is an alum of the DE Certificate Program. Her primary
teaching interests are adult Medical Surgical Nursing, Pathophysiology and
Nursing Informatics. Her future goals are to continue with her passion,
teaching, and to pursue a post-doctoral position in the area of Nursing
Informatics research.
Peter
F. Young is serving as the Director of Undergraduate Business Programs
at Notre Dame de Namur University just south of San Francisco, CA. Peter
actually began work on ARPANet [precursor to the Internet we know and love
today] back in 1973 at UCLA and was on the first MILNet management team
[first spin-off of ARPANet] while serving in the US Army... And has been
tinkering with the Internet ever since! Peter currently teaches a
'Introduction of Podcasting & Internet TV Production' and an 'Advance
Podcast Production' course at NDNU and recently received the Faculty
Diversity Research Award for his work in simultaneous translation of news
broadcasting via podcasting for English <--> Spanish.
